My son turned 9 today! Actually it should be yesterday since it's already 2 o'clock in the morning.

Anyway, I was all sentimental during his birthday party.  To think, another 9 years, he would be off to college!  Eeeeek!

What can I say -- I'm having a worst case of "proud parent" syndrome, and decide to post a little clip of him playing piano on this special day. It's the song from the opening credits of his favorite movie Pirates of the Caribbean:

Wow, you never told us that Andy can play the Piano. It's sounds fantastic!!! (and I love the Pirates of the Caribbean soundtrack, so good choice :) )

Happy belated Birthday to Andy! I hope he had a wonderful day :o)

Thanks! I'll relate the message to him. :)

He's taking piano lessons since he was 5 (with a one year interruption in the middle). This song was actually way above his level. But he LOVES the movie and Captain Jack Sparrow so he was determined to learn. Plus we switched him to a fantastic piano teacher. She got him the book and taught him how to play this piece. They are currently working on Lion King's Can You Feel the Love Tonight, and after that they will go back to PoTC to tackle He's a Pirate (the closing credits song).

And he had a fantastic birthday bash on the beach! He spent a whole day boogie boarding, skimboarding, sand crabbing, etc. He was dead beat when we got home at tonight. He played piano for me while waiting for daddy to make him noodles for dinner (a Chinese tradition to eat noodles on bdays).

Thank you! I'll tell him that. :)

He's had a ball this weekend. I took him to see a movie today, Kungfu Panda. It's really "cute", we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks! I'll tell him that. :D

Kungfu Panda was funny, and heart warming. And it had some cool quotables that I really like. But my friends are telling me Wall.E is even better. So I'm planning to take him next weekend (He got a bunch of movie tickets for his birthday from his friends).

Great job, Andy! Belated Happy Birthday! Now you and Catherine are the same age :D

It sounds like he had a great birthday :)

(and man, I hadn't thought about 9 being halfway to 18 - I've been recently bummed because Elizabeth is starting 7th grade and she's halfway done with school. How is THAT possible??)
