I was at local Borders today and saw the newest edition of the Supernatural Official Magazine. I don't have the time to make the scan yet. The perennial J2 interview IMO mostly consists the same stuff we've already read/heard anyway. But there's a segment of Sera Gamble's interview really caught my attention, mainly because she was asked a question that I had previously wondered about a lot.

Speaking of Michael, had you already planned for Dean to be the angel's vessel back when you were writing season two's Bloodlust? Because it looks like Dean has a halo in that episode...
The happy accident halo! I remember when I saw the director's cut of Bloodlust, Bob Singer, who directed it, took me into the room and put it in for me, and he sat quietly next to me, very subtly watching my reaction. He's a humble guy, he doesn't toot his own horn too much, but I think he knew he'd done a really good job with that episode. We got to the part where we pushed in on this close-up of Jensen looking back at the house where they'd left Gordon tied up, and there was an amazing flare behind Jensen's head that looked exactly like a halo. He looked so beautiful and amazing in that moment. It was so perfect that I had a hard time imagining it was an accident, but Bob said it was just an accident.

The scene in question, of course, is this...

Mmmm... Actually the way I took it, she did. Based on her answer I don't think back at the beginning of season two, the writers & producers had any plan to tie Dean to the angels/mythology. When I first came into the fandom, friends told me Eric & Co. plans everything out way in advance and sticks to their plan. I suspect that was a very optimistic wishful thinking. They probably plans an entire season out in advance, but I don't think they knew exactly what they would do three or four years down the road.

With that being said, I don't mean to detract the writers merits either. Although I had issues with how some of the things turned out, I'm still generally happy with and expected the outcome of Eric's myth!arc.

Hmm. Okay. I'd love to see Dean as Michael, though. But perhaps this is better. This way Dean becomes the only person that has never been possessed by either a demon or an angel, if I'm not mistaken.

I too would be thrilled to see Jensen play Michael. Yet I'm more than satisfied that Dean never capitulate to a supernatural power, even if that power is the archangel Michael. What I hated however was Eric's decision to find a third rate replacement for Dean/Jensen. I would not have a problem with Lucifer didn't face-off Michael in the climax. Lucifer!Sam's confrontation with Dean alone would be great for me.

I also don't think there were plans to tie Dean in with the mythology, and when they decided to, they didn't know what to do with it, so he was pulled out (yep, still not happy with the finale).

Based on some stuff I've read, I do think how season 5 ended was how Kripke envisioned it, but I think it was that one scene of Sam falling in the hole. I also read the other day that Kripke never wanted angels (he even said something to that effect in one of the earlier seasons--I do remember reading that, but I don't know where) and that the only reason they were introduced was as a way to get Dean out of hell. How true that is, though, I don't know.

Either way, I agree that the above pic is gorgeous, even if it was just a "happy accident."
