Show, you broke my brain.  It's filled with watery mass ready to burst.  Already there were a few drops leaked at the closing scene.  But I'll get to that later.

I'm not capable of think-y thoughts at the moment.  I can only react instead:

+ Dean's idea of cheering Bobby up is to give him a backrob!  That's so cute, and familial.
+ Whoa!  That's a cool set of x-ray.  The boys are literally *pretty* down to their bones.
+ Castiel thinks God saved the boys and resurrected him.  Since he's yet to see God, I take it as a leap of faith.
+ Castiel's clueless response: "No, [God's] not on any flatbread."
LOL, Dean, haven't you learned sarcasm doesn't work on Cas?!
+ Despite being told repeatedly he's chosen by God, Dean's yet to have faith in the big guy!
+ Everything Cas did, he did it for Dean! Sam 'n Dean are teh OTP, but this sounds like a Dean/Castiel love song.
+ Don't you go all righteous on the boys, Cas!  You are to blame too.  You were the one freed Sam to kill Lilith.
+ Wait, Dean's amulet is a "God EMF?!"  But Sam gave that to him!
+ How did wee!Sam land on such a unique item?
+ I love Dean's reluctance to part with his necklace.  I can hear the silent objection: "But Sammy gave me this!"
+ "Don't loose it!"  Cas, did ya hear that?!  You better return the necklace back to Dean in one piece!
+ "Great, now I feel naked!"  Oh Dean! Pets him on the head.  I don't like this one bit either.
+ Ellen!  Ellen is back!  She hugs then bitch-slaps Dean.  I didn't realize how much I missed her 'till now.
+ Dean sure doesn't want to chance Sam running into any demons.
Here we see the first bit of "Don't trust Sam" business: Dean doesn't believe Sam is completely detoxed.
+ Holy crap!  Sam is tempted by demon blood.  Again.
+ Sammy!  Dean calls Sam "Sammy" again.  That's right, even though Dean doesn't trust Sam, he still *loves* him!
+ Hell.  Dean told soldier boy he served (his tour of duty) in Hell.  Seriously.  Nice hint of PTSD inferred here.
+ Ahh Sammy!  You're not completely honest with Dean.  You didn't tell Dean about the blood temptation.
+ Then again, Sam's not completely honest with himself either.
+ Body slam!  It's so wrong I find it hot.  So very wrong.
+ Poor Sam!  Having copious amount of salt pour down your throat is no walk in the park.
+ Yes! Pump fist.  Dean admits his instinct of going to Sam for answer is still intact.
+ I see Dean's trust issue is mostly narrowed down to Sam's addiction to demon blood here.
+ It's War!  Dean figures out which Four Horsemen they are facing.  I knew he's a smart one too.
I think it's rad for Kripke or Sera to make War's red horse into a classic red Mustang car.
+ "I know who you are."  Sam figures out on his own too.
+ "Save your protest for your brother."  Sam's lust for power is laid out in the open. He's forced to stare it in
    the face.
+ "Good intentions.  Quick slide to Hell, buddyboy."  'bout time Sam is told intentions don't mean squat in the
aftermath of power quest.  How was it said?  Power corrupts.  Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
+ Gads!  These people swapped salt bullets for real ones.  They aren't killing demons.  They're out for blood.
+ Kinda makes one think how blood thirsty humans can be.  There's darkness in all of us.
+ I can never get used to seeing demon!Dean's eyes, even if he's not real.  They are creepy.  And so wrong.
+ The look Dean and Jo exchange after they meet up again is cute.
+ For a second there I thought Ellen was going to die.
+ Yes!  The boys working together WINS, y'all!
+ "Next stop Mount Doom."  As soon as the ring finger was cut off, my 10 yr old commented: "It's just like lotr!"
+ Sam admits he doesn't trust himself either.  It's a good thing.  He's truly on the mend if he can acknowledge it.
+ Dean's maturing by agreeing to give Sam space to fight his own battle. As much as I hate to admit, Sam does
not need cuddling this time.  He has to face this on his own.
+ Doesn't mean it doesn't hurt like a bitch though.  The look on Dean's face before he agreed is heartbreaking.
+ And he offered Sam his Impala.  Yes Sam, take it!  Take a piece of Dean with you!
+ Sam turned it down because he knows it's bad enough he's leaving Dean, he can't take Dean's baby as well.
+ I can't see.  The screen is all blurry when Sam reached to retrieve his stuff out of Impala.
+ Something stuck in my throat as I watch Dean watching his brother hopping on some strange guy's truck.
+ Ironically, this is the strongest I've seen Sam as he walks away.
+ Dammit, I'm undone!

Couple of after thoughts:  Even though I was bawling at the end here, I wasn't feeling the same desolation I felt at the end of last episode.  This is because although there's the physical distance between the brothers, I feel emotionally, they have drawn closer since last week.  Like "Sympathy for the Devil", this is a mighty fine episode as well.  Season 5 has been awesome so far.

My score for the episode: A

Some responses to you:

the ring made me think of LOTR too! I thought that Dean should be careful and not put the ring on his finger or he will have power he can't handle

yes, it took strength for Sam to walk away

thought Ellen might die, and was happy she lived

best line was Castiel's "He's not on any flatbread". Misha makes Castiel funny in such a deadpan way.

I felt their pain, but felt hopeful too!

Hee, I was too caught up with the brothers working together to defeat the baddie, I didn't register the ring thing until my son commented on that.

Both boys are maturing. Sam was so strong for facing his woe and be so honest. When he left I felt so proud of him and yet heart breaking. I can't wait for the boys to find their way back to each other. And when they do, it would be bittersweet!

"even though Dean doesn't trust Sam, he still *loves* him!"
Yeah, that's why I love Dean so much!~

Me too! I love Dean too. Although I adore Sam as well, Dean owns me. :-)

Thanks for stopping by and commenting!

Isn't it so! I screamed at my tv twice during the hour: first when Dean took off his necklace, and then this. Dean knows he can't go off with Sam, but he still wants a part of him to stay with his brother. I was yelling: "Take it, Sam. Take it!" But when Sam declined, I can see the love there because Sam knew so much has been taken away from Dean, he can't take away his baby as well. Ahhh these boys are killing me!

Pretty much my response to the episode!!!

Yes, they are physically apart, but I think they separated under the best way--there was no fighting, no slamming of doors. They didn't keep anything in. They talked like two adults, were (what I think is) the most honest they've ever been. It hurt, but now that it's out, they can start working on things and heal. They need to be strong alone before they can be strong--stronger--together.

Miiiiick!!! *hugs*

That is so well said!! Exactly. As much as I love h/c, there is also the job at hand. I feel they are both maturing here. Sam looking internally, and I feel for the first time he's not projecting "poor me." Instead he's confronting his problem. When he left, I don't feel he's running away, I feel he's going to sort himself out.

And then, there is Dean. For the first time, he's not letting Sam be the center of THE universe. He acknowledged Sam is not his sole responsibility. I also think the fact he didn't fight Sam going off on his own means Sam is starting to regain his trust. I'm sure Sam being honest did the trick, Dean is trusting Sam's ability to look after himself. But I sense the urge to be there for Sam isn't completely gone. Hence he offered Impala to Sam. In so many ways, that car is an extension of him. I so wanted Sam to take the car!

Yet I adore Sam for not taking it.

These boys (actually it's Sera) are breaking my heart, in a good way.

I thought the red mustang was awesome too.
It was tough at the end. I'm looking forward to seeing them get back together.

I did not know which brother I felt sadder for for a while. But being a Dean!girl I realized my heart bleeds more for Dean. Here he's not only stripped away his brother, but also he had to let go the necklace Sam gave to him. It was clear he so not want to do that, but it's something he had to do.

I'm heartened by him offering Sam his Impala. To me it means he wanted a part of him staying with Sam. I wanted Sam to take the car so much, yet I love him for not taking this last thing away from Dean!

Oh the boys will get back together. It would be so bittersweet when that happens!

Thanks for reading and commenting! *hugs*

Wee!Sam got it from Bobby, but where Bobby got it form I have no idea! He just said that it was real special.

Of course he does! ♥

Nice hint of PTSD inferred here.

I noticed that too and I still think Dean's got the symptoms even now. :(

Yes! This is my thoughts exactly! Dean's grown a lot wiser and is trying not to make the same mistakes that led them to this. He knows he has to let his brother go in order to make things right again.

Really? I thought that was fanon instead of canon. I gotta watch the Christmas Special episode again to see what I missed.

I noticed that too and I still think Dean's got the symptoms even now.

I think what Dean went through in Hell would always stay with him. But the fact he now can say it out loud that he "served in Hell" means he is admitting he was a "prisoner of war" while down under. To me it sounded like he is letting up on the self loathing.

He knows he has to let his brother go in order to make things right again.

He also knows he has other responsibility than taking care of his brother. It's a grown up thing to do. Sam is no longer a baby, nor a child. I also think the fact Dean is able to let Sam walk away means Sam is starting to regain Dean's trust again. I'm sure Sam being honest has a lot to do with it. I think if Dean doesn't trust Sam to look after himself, he would never let him take off on his own.

Therefore, the ending was so sad yet so very hopeful. Sera Gamble did a wonderful job with the script IMO.

Nope it's canon. :)

That makes me so happy. If it means less self-loathing for Dean then it can only be a good thing.

Yep, I completely agree! Dean's come to realise that he has to let go!

OMG! That was a Sera Gamble script? I would have never of recognised it to be hers of you hadn't of said that!

Nope it's canon.

The implication of this gives me some interesting thoughts.

If it means less self-loathing for Dean then it can only be a good thing.

Yes, totally agree! I think with this statement (he was a soldier served in Hell), Dean is starting to see he was in an impossible situation that went beyond his control. His cracking up towards the end there did not make him a lesser man. The fact he's able to pick up from where he fell and get pass his weakness makes him incredibly strong in my book.

Dean's come to realise that he has to let go!

Damn him for being so grown up! See he can't win. ;)

I would have never of recognised it to be hers of you hadn't of said that!

What makes you say that? No show of skin by Sam here? ;)

Yep, he seems to be moving on from it and although he must still hold the guilt and pain, he's able to not let that get in the way of the next war he's facing.

Damn him for being so grown up! See he can't win. ;)

lol, poor thing!

What makes you say that? No show of skin by Sam here? ;)

lmao! Exactly that! I guess I've not noticed her doing many action packed episodes before. I don't know I guess it just didn't seem to be her normal pace, that's all.
