Barack Obama was elected President last night!

No need to say history was made, here is a glimpse:  this morning I stopped by Starbucks on the way to work.  Beside the usual cup of coffee, I wanted to grab a copy of The New York Times.  I normally get my news on the internet, but today I wanted to hold them in my hands and keep them for posterity.  To my surprise, I was met by an empty news shelf.  At 8:30 am, the newspapers were all gone.  So I went to another coffee house, and another...  The story was the same.  I even went to Borders and searched newspaper dispensers around town.  Not only The New York Times were sold out, so were Washington Post, and San Francisco Chronicles...  It's as if everyone knew and wanted to capture and preserve the historic day that was Today!

Awesome. I'm hoping this means something good too for the little corner of the world where I live. :)

Yannik! *g*

Good to hear from you, and I like your new username. What made you switch, might I ask? :)

And I have such hope for President Elect Barack Obama too (it has a nice ring to it, don't you think? ;)

[livejournal.com profile] o_yannik became too much about original writing and some random RL posting. [livejournal.com profile] evening_spirit is for fanfiction only. Supernatural right now. (it's Silke's fault, y'know) *grin*

Not you too! She got you, didn't she?! ;)

Thought you didn't like monsters. SN must be really good to turn you around.

Damn, I promised Sil that I'll watch the series from the beginning. I just haven't found time to do it yet.

From: [identity profile] evening-spirit.livejournal.com

There are NO MONSTERS! Oh, okay there are, but you can easily skip them. First season is so-so, took me about a month to see it all. Second season - that was in, like, ten days. Awesome angst, daddy issues, brother issues, yummy. Third season - you need to have four spare days. Or preferably sixteen spare hours to see it all in one go. I couldn't stop watching! And now it's reached a new height of AWESOME! Take BSG in season 4 and imagine a complete opposite of it. Different characters, different issues, of course, but the emotions are worth every minute. Not to mention teh pretty. ;)

Actually I think we (at Silke's forum) could (would, and would love to) spend some time on figuring out which episodes you'd need to watch to catch up with the mytharc, so you wouldn't have to see all of it... If you seriously want to see it someday?

BSG S4 wasn't all THAT baaaad. ::pout:: Then again, I liked the Lee-for-President arc, not to mention the red!shirt of hotness! ;)

But you are definitely making the case for SN here. Wonder if I should just skip first season all together then. I made the mistake of watching Farscape from the beginning, and I could never get past its first season, heh. Think if I'll be able to follow the arc if I skip S1?

I think you should at least watch the Pilot, Home and Devil's Trap - the final epi of the season. The rest is more or less skipable, but I'll ask the experts. ;)

BTW, Lee for Prez was awesome, but my emotional investment started fading somehow. :( We could go on and on about whys, but we can do that in January. ;)

RESIST IS FUTILE... :)

Seriously, based on what Y said, I was wondering if I should skip first season?

From: [identity profile] silwyna.livejournal.com

Season One still holds a special place in my heart, even with all the awesome episodes in later seasons it's still my favorite. There are a few episodes you can skip though, but there are also a few must-sees *g* The Pilot episode of course as well as the last two which make the finale. Then there is one called "Home" which brings the boys, well, home *g* And Shadow. Hmm, I could give you a whole list of episodes I would want you to see LOL Ask Yannik, she's busy collecting a list of the best episodes for you to watch :)

It was an amazing day and well worth to remember forever :)

Sil! {{hug}}

Yes, it was indeed amazing, on many levels. :)

My giddiness was only hampered after I learned voters in my state passed Prop 8, a proposition seeking to change constitutional amendment to ban single sex marriages. The way I see it, on the night racial barrier was crossed, inequality and discrimination still exist.

From: [identity profile] silwyna.livejournal.com

I've read about Prop 8. It's sad that it passed. Maybe it'll work in a few years. America has just elected a black president ... allowing gay marriage can't be that far off anymore.

From: [identity profile] xwacky.livejournal.com

You got a point there! Four years ago, voters voted to re-elect the least popular President ever in American history. It took us four years to realize our mistake.

I'm hoping in the near future, more people will wake up to the fact the issue presented by Prop 8 isn't just about queer marriage, it's about civil rights, and separation of church and state. Besides discrimination, I don't believe church should interfere with state law making.

A.L. Here..

As far as supernatural goes... I have the opposite reaction to Yannik... I will long be my favorite, if only for the introduction of da' boys.

I think you'd get caught up in this relationship as whole-heartedly as we have X. I should throw the DVD's in the box for this weekend!!!

Silke, Bonnie and I have been secretly plotting... We're not really celebrating BSG, we're going to convert you all to Supernatural this weekend. Seriously, Jared Padelecki does make you consider turning away from Jamie in his towel... YES! I said it! This man is 6 foot 4...

Jamie's head on Jared's body would indeed kill me...

Re: Heya!

My goodness!!! {{{HUG}}}

What a NICE surprise to hear from you! :D

It's been awhile since I ventured here. I had no idea you stopped by. X-D

Oh, and "political commentaries"? What do you take me for? Someone deep?! Baby, I only do shallow ;)
