No, seriously, it's not my line. Maureen Ryan from Chicago Tribune said it in her awesome blog about Supernatural!
Hehe, Ms. Ryan obviously fan!girls Jensen Ackles (Yay!) But who can blame her? ;) The man's acting floors me over and over again. I too feel like a broken record stating how good Jensen is at his craft.
I love Ms. Ryan's analysis of the seasons, in this case, mostly season 2, with sprinkled references to other seasons. Her character-analysis was in depth and spot on. I particularly favor this from her:
Aside from Jensen, Ms. Ryan also gave praise to Jared Padalacki. I especially agree with her that "...throughout [season 2] he excelled at letting Sam's inner sweetness shine though." I think she nailed (or rather pointed out Jared nailed) the character here. It is precisely because of that sweetness, despite everything Sam has done or possibly become at this point (the end of Season 4), I still like him, and root for his redemption (the same as I root for Dean's).
Interestingly, Ms. Ryan didn't much care for Linda Blair. Personally I liked that episode and thought it kinda cool they got her signed on for that. But I guess Ryan does have her point, and OMG her suggestion of Michelle Forbes for the role? Totally kick ass! And while we are on the topic of wishful female guest stars, can I just say that despite my reservations about "Starbuck" the character, I think it would be epically awesome if TPTB can score Katee Sackhoff to guest star as a gun toting (make that a big gun) badass huntress who gives Dean a run for his money! *g* Yeah, yeah, I know that won't happen. But a girl can dream, can't she?
I so want an icon that says "Kripke is a Cylon!"

...the sources of Sam's turmoil come from outside him. Yes, the demon blood got into him, but what causes him to question himself are things that happened around him or were done to him.
Dean's guilt seems more internal. He's always put the expectation that he had to take care of the family on himself, and he feels like, in key ways, he's failed at that. He sets up these expectations for what he should be and what he should do (expectations fed by John Winchester's strict standards, of course), and they're so high that of course he's bound to come up short.
