Finally, it pays to go to Starbucks!

Don't believe me?  Well, it's Tuesday.  Apparently they give free iTune download on Tuesdays there.  This week, the pick is JAKOB DYLAN!

So I get to download Jakob's new single Something Good This Way Comes.  ::dance::

Been listening to it all day.  Love the younger Dylan.  He's so talented...

I have no idea who Jacob Dylan is, but ... Wohoo!!!! :o)

Hee, Jakob is the youngest son of the legendary singer Bob Dylan with his first wife. Reportedly, he is the inspiration (at birth) behind Bob Dylan's song "Forever Young".

Jakob has established, entirely on his own, that he is a formidable singer and songwriter. Until recently, he was the front man for the rock band "The Wallflowers". They won 2 Grammy Awards in 1997, for the song "One Head Light" from the hugely successful album "Bringing Down the Horse". Here's a quote from the producer of that album (BDtH):

As far as Jakob is concerned, I can't imagine having larger footsteps to follow in. But Jakob's character is clearly defined and he handles success with grace, which also says a lot about Bob as a father.
Jakob had obstinately refused to talk about his father in interviews. He had never performed a song by his father in public. He had only performed with his father once in a private charity party. This led people to speculate animosity between father and son. However, Jakob finally broke his silence and cleared air in an interview (by "New York Times" reporter in 2005 I think). Jakob said there's lots of love between him and his father, and Bob Dylan is a very good parent. They are very close in private.

Jakob wrote all songs (music & lyrics) for his band. It appears these days, "The Wallflowers" is disbanded, and Jakob is finally pursuing his solo career.

Too much information? ;)

Not at all, very interesting information. It seems that the son managed to step out of his father's shadow :) I think it was clever to not talk about his father in interviews, otherwise it would probably all be about Bob Dylan and Jacob Dylan would somehow be forgotten.

It must have been amazing for father and son to perform together :)

TOTALLY! One correction, I just looked it up, it wasn't a charity party, it was a corporate gig. Although they both played in the same show, they didn't play together. Such is the extent of having the father and son duo in a public setting!

Not only Jakob refused to talk about his father in public, he also avoided people drawing attention to his (last) name. When he fronted his band, he was very big on featuring the whole band instead of singling him out. One time, he even threatened to cancel a gig unless the sponsor takes down his name from the advertisement per agreement (just "The Wallflowers" only, not "Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers"). He is a very principled man!
