I wanted to show different reactions from Bill, Kara, and Dee to Lee's presumed "fall from grace".
With Kara, because herself was unhappy and confused, I think it's natural for her to imagine Lee was tormented as well. Maybe in her heart, she even wished Lee was as miserable as she was in the aftermath of them returning to their respective spouses. Besides, I think Kara doesn't see addictions as a great evil these days. After all, she had gone on alcoholic binges herself, and even formed a friendship with Tigh. ;)
With Bill, I tried to show his reaction was influenced by his own guilt. Not too long ago (on his anniversary), he just learned how he had failed as a father for not seeing what was obvious all these years. Now, presented with this startling information, before outrightly dismiss it as untrue, I imagine Bill would want to look closely at his son to make sure he doesn't miss any signs of trouble again.
But with Dee, it's different. Her love for Lee was much simpler, bordering hero worshiping even. She doesn't have the baggages as the other two have. :b
In my mind, all three of them love Lee dearly, but they have different reactions based on who they were.
