You know, it just occured to me why Lucifer was cast out from heaven in the first place - pride. A trait that he shared with Sam perhaps? Remember the siren and what Sam said under its influence - that he was better, stronger, smarter *winces* I just hope that there's enough of Sam, the brother that used to look up to Dean, that would differentiate him from Lucifer.
